Today I did a live performance at the opening of a Christmas exhibition at the newly opened GALLERI MOT STRÖMMEN in Norrköping.
I focused on the Swedish songs from my C'est La Vie album, and threw in a Jobim song (Luiza) for good measure.
I did the gig completely unplugged, without microphone or speakers, and the acoustics in the gallery were awesome (as was the audience!).
4. Luiza (T. Jobim)
5. Changes Changes
6. Det gör ingenting
7. Beautiful Place
The exhibition is open until January 15, so be sure you don't miss it. There are some fantastic paintings and sculptures there!

Watch this beautiful short documentary about Astronauts who all say the same thing. Seeing Earth in the empty space reminded of why we must take care of this planet.
Video is here [19 minutes long]:
It's absolutely awesome!

My new website is now up!
For the first time since 2007 when I started a blog separate from the site, the blog is now incorporated in the actual website, with the menus and colors exactly the same.
The new design is also responsive, so will look OK even in phones and on tablet screens. Let me know if something is not working for you, you can send me a message at the contact link in the menu.
And - there's a surprise haiku waiting for everyone entering a mistyped URL or clicking a dead link ;)

My new single is now available on iTunes and Spotify!
Det kunde lika gärna varit vi is a samba-reggae song in Swedish, and the title means "It could just as well have been us" and is written in the shadow of the growing Pan-European racism, nationalism, hate and violence.

We have elections for the Swedish government next Sunday. This song is a call for people to have empathy with immigrant refugees coming from war and Eastern-European beggars coming from discrimination and racism in their own countries. Many of them are roma (so-called gypsies) and seeing the cold-hearted reaction of many Swedes to criminalize begging to get rid of them, is scary and is reminding of the 1930's Europe where nazism swept through countries in trouble caused by capitalism and the bubble economy.
Now, we're seeing the same thing again. People look for a scapegoat. Capitalism is the reason. Not the immigrants or the beggars in the streets.
"It could just as well have been been me
It could just as well have been been us
And all you'd wish for if you end up there one day
is a dash of empathy"
(English translation of the chorus)
Enjoy it and Share the love! <3

Hiba Tawaji is an awesome singer from Lebanon. Check this new song out. It's amazing - her voice, the song itself, and the haunting music video.
It's a masterpiece. The best song I have heard for a very long time.
Enough with hate and genocide now.
We must stop thinking in terms of "us" and "them".
Or it will never stop.

This year it's 10 years since I released my first album Passion!
The title song of that album has changed my life on a number of occasions, so I decided to celebrate. So... I am creating on a new remix of the original recording.
It might not seem earth-shattering, but I believe it is. The tracks I am using are: vocals, guitar, flute, string section and the guitar solo.
It will be very similar to the original. Just longer, and even more groovy.
I believe you're gonna love it.
Here's a sample just for you.
Please remember, it's not finished. The sound is still a bit muddy...

My new single is released today!
I GUESS IT'S OK (VAI FICAR TUDO BEM) is a duet with Vanessa Pinheiro (Brazil), performed in English and Portuguese!
If you are subscribing to my newsletter, you may already have heard this duet before, although in a completely different version...
The music video features footage from the 1914 movie Cinderella, with the stunning Mary Pickford doing a touching performance in the lead role. And now, 100 years later, she ended up in my music video... Her acting brings tears to my eyes.
And here's the link for iTunes:
Hope you like it!

The experience of working with Jonathan Larson's RENT (as a Music director, Conductor and Piano player) has really been a journey for me. We spent five months together with Angel, Mimi, Maureen, Joanne, Mark, Roger, Collins and Benny and the ensemble, and it's been among the best five months of my life.
I gave two newspaper interviews about RENT towards the end of the run.
One for Corren which you can read here in Swedish, and here in Google's auto-translated English.
The other was for Lokaltidningen, which you can read here in Swedish or with Bing's help in auto-translated English, as google translation messes up the layout on this website. Each of the three times my full name is included, it's translated differently: "John Paul" (!), "Johan David" and "Johan Martin".....
Ain't that pretty inexplicable!? (^.^)
And in Swedish, the word Rent can mean "Clean" or "Pure", so there are some mistranslations of the title itself (^.^)
I'm currently doing research and planning for a couple of new ideas for musicals that I have, and will soon start writing. I haven't written music for months now and I'm eager to get started...
Here is a photo of the RENT ensemble, including me (in the top left corner with two of the other musicians, and the director Johan is in the bottom right corner.

Parineeta is originally a novella from 1914 written by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay, a writer said to have been meant to be nominated to the Nobel Literature Prize in 1938, but inconveniently died before it happened.
Just like the more famous novel Devdas, Parineeta has been filmed several times, most recently in 2005, and that movie is what this post is about. Parineeta (meaning 'The married woman') is a story of a love separated by class, caste and religion.
This movie is fantastic!
Poor orphan Lalita (beautifully played by Vidya Balan) grows up with her uncle's family and develops a fascination (forbidden love) for the rich neighbor's son Shekhar (Saif Ali Khan in one of his best roles ever). Starting with the wedding celebrations for Shekhar and another woman, the movie is then told in a flashback, which at times gets a bit confusing, so I will make sure to read the novel, as the movie apparently differs in several ways.
However, as a movie it works perfectly fine. Pradeep Sarkar (director, screenplay) and Vidhu Vinod Chopra (producer, screenplay) have done a great job, it's masterfully filmed and edited, with great music by Shantanu Moitra.
