New albums from friends!

Posted at 14:40 under MUSIC, MUSICAL, JAPAN

A bunch of my Japanese friends recently released new albums, and I'd like to take the opportunity to mention them here. There's a link to a page where you can listen!

Taisuke Tsugimatsu's new band MaNHATTAN, instrumental progressive music:

Chihiro and BEN (both from NOANOA)'s new band PIECE OF PEACE, souly RNB pop (Chihiro sings on my Peacebird album and also joined the backing vocals in my single "Peace!"):

Tetsuro Yafune released his new album yesterday, singer/songwriter in a jazz pop style (I know, I'm not very good in labelling music! For me good music is good music!)

I hope I haven't missed anyone. I've got some Swedish friends finishing albums too right now, but I'll write about that later.

And my musical.... I got GREAT feedback on the song I played at the piano on my gig last weekend, and it really gave me energy. Looking forward to start recording later this autumn.

I wish someone could give me free flight tickets between Stockholm and Tokyo. This autumn I would need quite a few of them! Recordings, gigs, family business. I'd need a ticket a month.

Do you have a friend at FINNAIR or JAL? Please tell them I need a sponsor (^_^)

Live at Roman Records Cafe

Posted at 15:38 under MUSIC, PEACEBIRD, SETLISTS

Saturday was recovering day after the mastodont 19-song performance at Strobe, and yesterday was another Peacebird pre-release Tokyo gig, this time at the SOLD-OUT Roman Records Cafe!

1. Slow Down
2. Anything For You
3. There's Only You
4. Balans
5. Baby Just Relax
6. Let The Sunlight In

7. Passion
8. I'm Here
9. A Little Bit More Real
10. After The Rain
12. Don't Bring It Up
12. I Love You

13. C'est La Vie

("C'est La Vie" is one of owner Aimie's favourite songs, so I did an intimate encore version for him.)

At closing-time, Aimie sang "Moon River" for those who had refused to go home earlier. He's got a really nice voice, and it's a great song, I was happy to re-discover it.

My favourite Tokyo radio station J-Wave is playing one (or more) of my Peacebird songs every week! Today when I was logged in at twitter and in the middle of replying to messages, I suddenly saw my song "I Love You" in their "on-air now" tweet stream. Could there be a better surprise tweet than that!?

The song is for you, Tae!

6 August

Posted at 10:25 under MUSIC, PEACEBIRD, SETLISTS

Today is a dark day in Japanese history... This day in 1945, the USA dropped the first atomic bomb over Hiroshima.

In the light of the bomb (that pun was completely unintended!) and the nuclear accident in Fukushima following this year's earthquake and tsunami, my personal opinion is that Japan should take a different road to energy. Not in the future. It has to start now. Japan has some of the most intelligent engineers and inventors in the world. They should use their brains to develop new energy sources instead of self-flushing toilets playing music.

I think the accident in Fukushima was a warning, not only to Japan but to all the world. It could have been worse. Now is the time to change.

This weekend I have two release gigs in Tokyo for my Peacebird album. Yesterday at Strobe Cafe was wonderful. Really intimate and warm atmosphere, and I was very happy to be on the stage for such a long time. Must have been about 100 minutes or something???

Special guests were:
Tetsuro Yafune
Chihiro from Piece of Peace

I think it was my first time to sing "Se solen g upp" in Japan, the digital single from 2009, available here:

It was also the first time for me to play the piano on a stage in Japan. I always played the piano in 2-3 songs during my gigs when I was around 20, so I was glad to be able to use the grand piano at Strobe!

Here's my setlist, after Tetsuro Yafune's brilliant 3-song introduction:

1. Passion
2. Se Solen G Upp
3. Wait For Me (at the piano!)
4. Balans
5. Don't Bring It Up

Here Chihiro entered to sing 3 songs (I played the guitar):
6. Girl, It's Time
7. More Than Friends
8. A Case Of You

And back to my songs (with Chihiro on backing vocals and shaker):
9. Peace! (Give the people the power back)
10. A Little Bit More Real
11. Baby Just Relax
12. Anything For You
13. Let The Sunlight In

Here we invited Tetsuro Yafune back to the stage for 3 songs:
14. Always On My Mind
15. Slow Down
16. Pickin' Up The Pieces

And I finished by myself:
17. I Love You
18. After The Rain

Encore (all three of us):
19. Fly Me To The Moon

Here's some photos:

The following photos are by Mihara:

Tomorrow I play at the lovely Roman Records Cafe in Gakugeidaigaku. The Peacebird keeps flying...

I think it's sold out, but please call to check!

Open 17:00
Live 18:30 (1st stage)
20:00 (2nd stage)

Nihonga exhibition in Kyoto

Posted at 02:27 under MUSIC, MUSICAL, ART, JAPAN

My Osaka friend Masako Kurokawa, who will do the artwork for my Musical CD next year, is now in July participating in a Nihonga exhibition in The Museum of Kyoto (京都府京都文化博物館).

Masako's work is on display only until the end of this month, and from next month, the work of other nihonga painters will be displayed.

Website of the museum:

Masako's blog:

Because my Peacebird album has been so much delayed, it has also delayed the production and arrangement of the music for the musical. I will begin studio recordings later this year, in Tokyo with Japanese musicians, and in Sweden with Swedish musicians, and the release of a finished CD may be possible for the autumn of 2012.

The musical project is very very big (almost 2 hours of music that need to be arranged for a small orchestra, solo musicians and singers, and we are looking for producers to help us finance the production.

Peacebird setlists

Posted at 02:08 under MUSIC, PEACEBIRD, SETLISTS

Did the first Peacebird gigs in the weekend, and as usual I forgot to ask someone to take photos; I'm in an ever-growing need of an agent.....

However, got this photo taken just before I left:

Saturday 23/7 at Cafe TORi:

2. Balans
3. Hold On Now
4. Slow Down
5. After The Rain
6. Let The Sunlight In
7. Difficult
8. A Little Bit More Real
9. I Love You
10. Pickin' Up The Pieces
11. Baby Just Relax
12. Don't Bring It Up

1. Passion
2. I Guess It's OK

Sunday 24/7 at Koenji Otomeshi:

1. Balans
2. Hold On Now
3. Slow Down
4. Don't bring it up
5. After the rain
6. Baby Just Relax
7. A Little Bit More Real
8. I love you
9. Let the Sunlight In
10. Passion

Actually I don't remember!

As I was playing, I changed some songs in the setlist to suit the atmosphere, so I don't remember these spontaneous decisions (_ _)
I will have to post the setlist sooner next time, before I forget it!

Next gig is on August 5, at Strobe Cafe! That will be a special night for 3 different reasons:

I will play the piano and sing in 1-2 songs!

2 and 3:
I have invited special guests Tetsuro Yafune (piano/vocals) and Chihiro (vocals, from Piece of Peace/NOANOA).

We'll do some songs together all 3 of us, and I will play the guitar with Chihiro, and she will sing some backing vocals with me, so it will really be a special one-time-only performance.

Kita Sando, Tokyo
Open 19:00
Start 19:30

3000 yen (+ 1 drink order)

The ticket includes 2 special Peacebird novelties!

And the CD will be for sale, of course (^^)

If you can't make it to my gigs, you can buy the CD from my website:
